My housemates and I went shopping together yesterday. It was lovely, we ate some veggie food, filled our bellies with free samples at Whole Foods shop and then each bought a dress at Joy. I like dresses. I have become a little slow at updating my blog, my job just moved out of London so I am really tired with all the commuting. (Yes I have a job as well as the photography!). I am trying to do more and update more. I really need to draw more too.... In fact I drew a little scribble of our shopping trip!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Year! I had fun then got ill on new years day. Only really feeling better today! Cleaned up my room, maybe a bit of an early spring clean. Took some photos...I really feel at home here, it's my favourite room so far that I have lived in.

I want this year to be the best year yet. So many things I want to do...take more photos, learn a new craft, meet new people, travel...I would really love to go to Iceland and take my camera....

Started off the new year with news that one of my favourite unsigned bands in London has split. Joana and the Wolf were fantastic live and had some pretty good songs. Considering they never released an album I have about 16 songs on my pc! The last time I saw them, I took this picture of Joana:

Christmas

ho ho ho it's nearly Christmas! We decided to decorate the flat today, I don't normally really get into Christmas or the decorations, but something is different this year... We combined the Halloween decorations with Hazel's Christmas decorations and came up with....A Nightmare Before Christmas?! The disco ball skeletons complete with a tinsel 'crown of thorns'... I sat and cut out a lot of paper snowflakes and stuck them on the windows and the walls, just like I did when I was at uni.

However I am looking forward to the winter Solstice far more...need some lighter days....

The Destroyers @ Wilton's Music Hall

I ventured out last Friday to see The Destroyers at Wilton's Music Hall. It was the third time seeing them there and I have to say; Wilton's is by far my favourite venue in the whole of London. its stunning and seems to be a tucked away secret, after all, it's down an alleyway near Tower Hill.

BERLIN!

I visited Berlin over the weekend. It was my first time leaving the country for almost 10 years, so it was even more exciting and special. I went with three close friends; we didn't really do any touristy activities; instead we just ate a lot of vegan food! However we did visit the Holocaust Memorial which was both beautiful and haunting at once. I took a few photos of it using my film SLR camera.

I was home alone on Sunday and had planned to try out another lens for my Olympus OM10 slr, so when I awoke I was quite disappointed to find thick mist and fog. However it started to lift around 12 o'clock so I ventured out for a stroll in my local park. The lens was so heavy; and what with being so zoomed in; I needed a steady hand so I held my breath. But with the heaviness and lack of breathing I broke out in a sweat and became out of breath! Having never used the said lens before, I was not overly convinced of my abilities, however yet again I was blown away by the results. It's the colour which strikes me most of all. So rich and deep; I can almost taste it. I used Jessops this time which not only had better service; they still give you a free film! Yayy!

I tried out my 'new' camera; an Olympus OM10 last Sunday. Only just got the prints back (Snappy Snapps is a RIP OFF). I didn't bother to read the manual and just started fiddling and playing with it. Didn't expect much so was shocked when most of them came out in focus!! I now want to try a photoshoot with it. Need an idea/model/etc etc etc. Anyone?

Nicky Wire @ Rough Trade East, London

Just a quick entry this evening before bed! I went to hear Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers talk about his new book; Death of a Polaroid, tonight at Rough Trade East. It was really quite lovely and civilised including a free (tiny) glass of white wine and a chair, which was much needed after a day at work. He interested me as he made a point of saying he is not a photographer but I am not so sure. When do you actually become one? It made me realise just how much I love using instant film and just how much I miss the original Polaroid. I love my fuji instax, the picture quality is better, however it just doesn't have that iconic shape the Polaroid had. I still have my Polaroid, which has one photo left to take. I can't bare to use that last one...to experience the death of my camera.
The book does look beautiful and I would love to publish a book like that one day...

autumnal times

I went for a walk yesterday, first day of proper sunshine this autumn. I have borrowed a film SLR and snapped a roll of film. We shall see the results on Friday... But I ventured out with 4 other cameras including my fuji instax which gives these wide strange looking polaroids! However the light had gone and the colours were quite dull.... The bird picture above, captured the moment a few parakeets scared off 100s of singing birds. I stood for a while on my own looking up to the tree tops listening to their late night song. It was really quite magical and spiritual. I was sad when they flew away. I then looked to the ground and found many pretty mushrooms...

how to have a better day

I sat today drinking alternating cups of detox tea and lapsang souchong and wondering when these clouds are going to clear. In many ways then the fluffy things in the sky. I am desperate to take some pictures of autumnal colours yet it has been dark and cloudy. I want the clouds to clear everywhere...

I was really touched by the film 'Life in a Day' and like I said before; I am going to film my day on Saturday. I have been trying to think how I am going to do it as I have never really filmed anything before. It should be fun!

Maybe I should do some of these things:

This is what I wore on 5th November. I missed all fireworks, sadly. I was meant to go to a friends but due to a stressful week, for one reason or another, I had to stay home and relax. I actually ended up catching up with a friend from sixth form who I hadn't seen for about three years. We went out for a pub lunch and a bar dinner. So Saturday worked out well. I heard fireworks over the weekend but saw none. I guess maybe now I am too old for fireworks? Hmm maybe not.

I watched the film Life in a Day on Thursday night. Various people had told me it was life changing; it truly was. The BBC is doing 'Britain in a Day' next weekend. I think I am going to try and join in, meaning I will film my day and upload it to youtube! Scares me a little, I am very rarely the subject of my art/photography. These recent 'what I wore' photos have been incredibly difficult for me to do!!!!

Anyway, I am off to have a detox tea. Yum.

Anna Calvi

A simple equation:

I went to see Anna Calvi at Sheperds Bush Empire (or is it O2 now?!) on Tuesday! My friends bought me a ticket for my birthday as I didn't see her full set at Field Day Festival earlier in the year. It was by far one of the best shows I have seen all year. I am in awe of how such a tiny person can have such a powerful voice.

Anyway, no photos from the show as Sheperds Bush Empire confiscates professional looking cameras. I did try to get a photopass, but as I wasn't writing a review or anything, it was a no. (But her PR person was very nice!).

I celebrated Halloween early with a few friends, some pumpkin soup, films and candles. I did a little bit of pumpkin craft and carved a kitty into a very large pumpkin!

I've been having some strange dreams recently. I had one on Friday night about visiting someone who had a pet lion. Then when I went back later; the lion was fully grown and he stood up and hugged me. Then on Saturday night I dreamt I had two exciting things to tell my friends, one was a large florescent green lizard which was trapped in my house and the other was a cup of peppermint which had magically appeared in my room!

Walked around London even more today, helping Hazel. So tired. Ended up in Pall Mall at 6.30 this evening, caught the bus home to find my housemate Ruth had cooked risotto. Mmmm :-)

I cooked baked apples again for us and as I went to get the Butterscotch Schnapps out the cupboard to put on top; I poured a load on my head and now my hair smells all sweet and sugary but extremely sticky. Apples tasted nice though.

I am wondering why I joined lookbook. It goes against most of my principles by being a popularity contest and essentially voting for who you like the best. I know I am not as into fashion as all the other people are and I can't be bothered most of the time to wear contact lenses.

I went to Occupy the London Stock Exchange protest today. I was really impressed with what everyone is doing, there is even a library, a university and a fully functioning kitchen giving out free food. There are talks throughout the day and even people giving out random acts of kindness (today it was free pineapple; yay!).

These two girls gave me pineapple!

2pm meeting. Sadly I couldn't hear anything they said. An eagle eyed person can spot my friend Venus, founder of Reclaim Love, sat in the circle.

I left, feeling inspired that people can fight back and there is still fighting spirit out there; people who haven't given up and accepted their fate.

Afterwards I stepped onto a tube on the central line and sat down in front of three girls. As soon as I sat down they started whispering to one another. I quickly realised I was wearing the same skirt the girl opposite me had just bought. He friend then said loudly "don't worry, you will rock it better then her". Yeah great, thanks. Who says things like that to peoples faces? The girl looked like a cross between Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice and Pat Butcher from EastEnders. Most bizarre.

Last Friday I gathered two models, two pumpkins, two friends, two gnomes, a mirror, a pile of books and a mirror and dragged the whole lot to a small patch of urban woodland for a photoshoot.

The models wore dresses made by Natanya of Flutterbydaisy, beautiful black lace and gold buttons worked into crafty masterpieces! I also had Tanita helping who took some photos during the shoot and helped carry two heavy pumpkins in her bag!

I was going for a spooky, halloween, witch theme whilst deliberately using two models with short hair instead of the traditional long haired witchy types.

a couple of years ago I took some photos of Emily Alice Ovenden and Pythia. There were some obvious shots from the set which were 'the ones', you know, the ones which stick out and are clearly the best. However; me being me, I didn't delete any of the photos. Occasionally when I am feeling inspired I go through old photos and play around with editing. This is what happened with the following photo:

It's pretty. It has daisies, what more can you ask for? Actually it was pretty fun shooting Pythia and Emily is so photogenic and easy to photograph! I can't believe it was two years ago!

I also have a SHOP!! I have started with cat greetings cards but plan to do more; please tell me what you want!

Vegan Bounty Brownie

Ingredients

Cake

2 cups plain four

1/4 cup dessicated coconut

2 cups caster sugar

3/4 cup cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla

pinch salt

1 cup vegetable oil

1 (ish) cup water

Topping

1 cup dessicated coconut

1 cup icing sugar

To make the cake

1. Preheat oven to 175c

2. Sift flour and cocoa into a bowl.

3. Add sugar, oil & salt

4. Add the vanilla & coconut.

5. Mix well and pour into a greased baking tray. (9 x 13inch is good size)

6. Bake for about 25 - 30 min OR until the top is no longer shiny.

7. Leave to cool for about 15 mins before adding the topping.

To make the topping

1. Mix 1 cup coconut and 1 cup icing sugar.

2. Make sure it is nice and thick.

3. Spread on the top.

Vegan Jaffa Brownies

This cake marries the deliciousness of a naughty gooey chocolate brownie and the wonderful zesty jaffa cakes. It's really easy to make and even better to eat. Yummyyyyyy.

Ingredients

Cake

1/2 Orange (Juice & zest)

2 cups plain four

2 cups caster sugar

3/4 cup cocoa powder

pinch salt

1 cup vegetable oil

1 (ish) cup water

Topping

1 dessert spoon marmalade (the one with bits in)

1/2 Orange (Juice & zest)

1/2 cup Cocoa powder

1/2 cup icing sugar

(water may be needed depending on how juicy the orange is!)

To make the cake

1. Preheat oven to 175c

2. Sift flour and cocoa into a bowl.

3. Add sugar, oil & salt

4. Grate all the zest of the orange and put around 3 tsp in the cake mixed. Set the rest aside.

5. Juice half the orange. Pour the juice into cup measure. Add water to make up to one cup worth of liquid and add to the cake mixture.

5. Mix well and pour into a greased baking tray. (9 x 13inch is good size)

6. Bake for about 25 - 30 min OR until the top is no longer shiny.

7. Leave to cool for about 15 mins before adding the topping.

To make the topping

1. Mix 1/2 cup cocoa and 1/2 cup icing sugar.

2. Slowly add the orange juice, bit by bit until you have a smooth thick mixture.

3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of zest and mix well.

4. Set aside. In a saucepan put the (large) dessert spoon of marmalade and remaining juice (there should be some) and heat until runny.

5. Prick the cake lightly and pour over the hot marmalade mixture until covered. Leave to soak in.

6. When the cake is cool, evenly spread the icing over the top. Sprinkle on a little of the zest for decoration.

On Saturday I photographed a Civil Partnership! Catherine; a friend I went to School with, got hitched to a beautiful girl called Rebecca. I felt very touched to be asked to photograph such a special moment and day in their lives, that I wanted to make sure I captured every detail possible.

I have always wanted to photograph weddings; a lot of people say it's just the 'bread and butter' of the photography world, but I genuinely enjoy it. What is better then being part of two peoples best day of their lives and celebrate LOVE?!

I went to see Lilies on Mars album launch last night. It was lovely and the venue was nice too, apart from the over priced disgusting wine.

I am photographing a wedding next week! I've very excited about it. There is nothing like capturing a couples' love for one another. It's in Oxford too, I haven't been there since I saw Ruby Throat there back in 2007!

It's been a few days since I last updated! Last week (12th Feb) I went to Reclaim Love! It was by far the best one yet; and this was my fourth. Due to the Eros statue at Piccadilly being dug up, a parade was organised. We walked from Eros to Green Park; stopping all the traffic and buses in central. It was funny, it was lovely and we left chalky love (well scribbles on the pavement and walls) to point others in the right direction. After strict instruction not to tread on flowers (ironic telling hippies not to trample flowers!) we held hands and did the usual chant in the park. It was so beautiful, it was warm and there were trees and I think magic might have happened....but honestly; Venus did an amazing job organising it this year and all that willing for a nice day paid off as it was mild enough not to even need to wear a jacket!

Then on Monday I came down with a horrible cold but still went to Hula Hooping class. It was the most fun class yet, mainly because there weren't many people there (Valentines evening) so we could run around and have 'hoop wars'; which basically means going up to someone and trying to knock their hoop down with your hoop...yes I am 5 years old. But I did beat Anna (the teacher) on my first go. Mwah ha ha haaa.

Then my cold er...progressed into a chest infection; forcing me to come home from work, which I hate doing. However this did give me some time to think...and plan a website. I've needed a website for so long and I am really happy it will be up and running soon, thanks to Andrew for building it and Tim for sorting me out with a domain (hannahdaisy.com!!!!).

On Saturday; myself, Hazel, Tanita and Simon all visited the Tate Modern; it's been a while since visiting there. It was packed and I often forget how much a bombardment of senses visiting the Tate Modern is. I quickly tired, so headed off for tea at inSpiral and then Chinese Vegan Buffet in Angel. Stuffed myself. Still feel full now heh.

Hello! So I was contact about a week ago by Elle Girl Korea....apparently they like my bedroom. They might feature me in their magazine next month. Here is a photo I took for them:

On Saturday; I went to GlamRacket over at The Lexington. My friend Dom and I were a bit late because we stuffed ourselves with vegan Chinese buffet in Angel....however once there, our friend Sophia played a wonderful set and we were able to disco dance together, almost like old times. We could close our eyes and become rather nostalgic. You look round the room and nothing is new, everyone is transported back in time, even smoke to simulate tobacco smoke and atmosphere. We got up on stage; for old times sake and danced and pointed until the early hours of the morning.
I need to find more places to go out...

This Saturday is RECLAIM LOVE. Yes Valentines is coming, yes all it promotes is the buying of useless shit to prove you love someone. Nothing says 'I LOVE YOU' like a box of crappy chocolates and a bunch of flowers sprayed with chemicals which have destroyed the environment in which they were grown. Why do you have to BUY something to say 'I love you'?! Why not just say it? Is it because of fear? Come on down to the streets of London and unite as ONE for we are all ONE.

This year Reclaim Love meets at the Eros Statue in Piccadilly at 2pm 13th February and leaves for a procession at 2.30pm to a mystery destination! (I don't know where it is).

This is what I did today (besides a stupid amount of cleaning and me and Hazel rearranging everything in the kitchen). I put up my collection of 6 years of setlists; in my lounge. Then I found a 7 of spades just hanging out in my flat; why not wear it in my hair?! Oh yesssss.

I went to see the Manic Street Preachers, twice, last week at Brixton Academy. It was amazing. I didn't queue, just turned up on my own and bumped into people when I was actually in the venue (Alicia on the Friday and Simon and Mark on the Saturday). So I wasn't completely friendless. Friday I went as far front as I could; I was elbowed, punched, squashed and all the usual frolics of being in a Manics mosh...! On the Saturday, I stood further back with Simon and Mark. Both nights I met up with all the usual people afterwards, doing the usual of 'bothering'.
I didn't take any photos, for fear of the Brixton Academy people taking my camera off me! So here is one of me and my (ex) housemate Robert (who moved out yesterday)! (Byeeee Robert come back and visit soooooooon :'-( )

I dreamt Edward had a job as a PA for a Doctor. Every day he would go out an work and I didn't know. One day I went to my local Doctors and he was there, sat at an old fashion typewriter typing letters. He was wearing a tie and a little blue cap and looked really shocked that I had caught him. Later back home, I tried to confront him as to why he had never told me that he had a full time job and why he hadn't been paying council tax. He could only meow back at me. Oh dear.

I laughed about this all of Thursday....

I went to see The Dogbones on Saturday at The Purple Turtle. Another great show, thought it would be awkward for me, on a personal level....but it wasn't. I had a lovely group of friends there and when the gig night finished and a club night started, we left and went to the Black Cab. We were IDed as usual BUT then we had to prove our queerness to get into a gay night?! One of my friends had to show her rainbow ribbon just to prove we weren't gay bashers or anything dodgy. But it was a good night anyway, lots of fun and lovely people <3

ok so maybe a complete move over to TUMBLR is just a bit silly. After all, it's basically micro-blogging, which is probably why it is sooooo addictive. I am not really sure if anyone reads this anyway...but I like to think of it as another 'Internet footprint' and also hope that someone notices what I do, likes it and hires me! (oh yesss).

Some random things from me. I love charity shops. Probably a bit too much. Screw the 'vintage' shops which rip you off with their beautiful items, WHICH THEY PROBABLY BOUGHT FROM CHARITY SHOPS! I bought this lovely sequined boob tube from the local RSPCA shop earlier in the week for £3! See the poor quality webcam shot:

My cat Edward has been featured, along with lots of my photos, on lovemeow.com . It's quite sweet, although I didn't say he 'moved to the living room'. That would be a bit mean. However it does illustrate his personality quite well.

It took me ages to get this shot of Edward. He is always far too excited about being in my bedroom to settle and sleep. Every other time I tried, he batted the scrabble tiles off the bed and tried to eat an 'A'. This time I think he was in such a deep sleep he didn't notice!

Did everyone have a good new years? I went to a friend of a friend of a friends house, met someone else called Daisy, went to Hoxton Bar and Grill, got a little drunk, stumbled home, ate chips, talked to housemate and went to bed. Nothing too dramatic! But meeting someone called Daisy is definitely a highlight...Ive only ever met one before, back when I was at school. (By the way, Daisy is my REAL middle name, not made up because of a certain band or anything!)

solstice and yule

Hope everyone had a good Yule and Solstice! Everyone is happy the days are getting longer, right?

Hazel gave me this for Christmas...Edward was eyeing it up!!

My brother gave me this:

I am addicted to chilli and this....is apparently the hottest sauce available...and er....yes it's hot. I tried it neat and I swear I ended up tripping on it!

About a month ago, I took up hooping, Hula Hooping that is! It's fantastic and I am already addicted. Me and Dom have been going to classes taught by Anna Drury and have already learnt loads, bought a pretty gold hoop and went to Rockahula club night. It's pretty good exercise too, bruises and all.

This year was the first year I have ever seen snow on the ground on Christmas day! I went out for a walk on boxing day morning, it was very cold but a beautiful day.

I heard Hazel make a random statement today; 'memories are weird'. Well yes indeed they are. I have been looking through previously ignored photos. It works, looking at them with a fresh mind.

Don't worry, Bebe wasn't hurt here!!:

This was taken about three years ago (or more, can't remember right now). I was in Norwich and this was my bedroom window. I used to watch that tree change throughout the seasons, it became kind of special. The teapot came with the house...

This was taken two years ago; Hazel decided to make a snow bunny...she got very cold hands and we had to steal some sunglasses of a giant snowman to make the bunny's eyes!

I am cold:

My last entry was about Autumn, clearly the season has changed. It's not that thick in London, but was still fun to walk to work.
I thought I would dig out some of my old snow themed photos.

This was a strange and fun shoot in January this year. Hazel and Christopher braved the show in the early hours of the morning, dressed in what can only be described as 'almost Victorian bathing wear' ?!! It really was so cold but Christopher sat on his chair and sang Nico songs to the snowy night air. Then a man walked down the road. He was south african and was so confused to see two people sat in the middle of the road singing and dressed in vintage beach ware!

And then there are the Snow Bride photos from February 2009. A different flat and a different road. Again Hazel braved the snow. She wanted to lay in the snow but I was worried that she would get ill...this shoot was done in a few short bursts because it was so cold and her vintage wedding dress was obviously not warm!!!

Finally, this is photo of my friend Ruths bike. I think she cycled home...brrr

To conclude, snow is cold and Hazel can brave the snow. Yay.

autumn

I love autumn and autumn light and the whole notion of change. For me it is tarred by winter; I cannot tolerate the cold. I have always tried to capture autumn; the colours, the light and the change. Today I went to Richmond and wondered round some gardens there. We watched the friendly squirrels burying and digging up nuts, watching the fish swim under the ice and admiring the colours; yellow leaves and warm light. Brr so cold.
It is difficult to be in tune to the seasons in London, I feel so removed from nature. Having grown up (more or less) in the countryside, I was always aware or the seasons and the changes, here in London everything is concrete and grey!

I went to meet Venus in Hampstead today. We climbed to the top of Parliament Hill, the view was amazing. Such a clear day, could see for miles. The light was so golden; we stood and watched a man saluting the sun whilst we made shadow shapes on a tree. We met many dogs (or wolves?!) but one tried to bite Venus....

On Thursday myself, Dom, Tasha and Simon went to Pogo Cafe. I stuffed myself and took this photo of Dom when he was so excited about eating a VEGAN Knickerbocker Glory...mmm.

London is so cold, frost had formed by 7pm this evening. Brrr

I spent today carving a pumpkin! I haven't carved one since I was little! It's easier then I thought...I used the innards for vegan pumpkin and chocolate brownies; mmmm! Except I turned my back for 5 second and Edward licked the icing off the top. One wasted cake.

About a month ago I stumbled across a decaying, derelict home. Roof missing but still had toys scattered around. Hadn't been burnt, just decayed. There is something that draws me to decaying buildings, I would love to visit an abandoned town. Suggestions?

Bebe/Tatty Devine/Stella Vine

I was wandering around Brick Lane today and stumbled across the Tatty Devine store. Having never been in before, I had a snoop round and spotted a certain framed print by Stella Vine, of my housemate Hazels cat, Bebe! To which I pointed out to one of the lovely people working there 'THAT'S MY CAT'! She let me take a photo too!

I have one of the prints and it reminded me that I really need to get it framed!!

Bebe has been through a lot since moving to London, including going missing three times; once coming back having been beaten up and another time she spent three days in the snow and turned up at Battersea Dogs Home!! She also developed hyperthyroidism, became crazy because she was hungry all the time, lost weight, threw up all the time and then her fur became matted which she then pulled out a few 'tufts'. Then a couple of months ago Hazel paid to have the matted bits shaved off and bought her medical food and now she is back to normal! Wow! Well apart from now suffering from arthritis!

Earlier in the month I was a bridesmaid at my friends wedding. It was truly beautiful and was a special experience to be part of. I of course took my camera with me...took a few snaps. This really got me thinking, could I become a wedding photographer? My uncle is a wedding photographer and my father ran a photography business for over a decade. I am aware of how it can be unreliable but...I think I could do a good job. Looking at the professional photos from the day, the only difference between us is their experience.

Anyone fancy hiring me? I am interested in photographing civil partnerships too!! These photos are simply the minimum as I had other duties on the day:

I had an odd dream last night:

I was stood on a high balcony; it was hot and balmy and the air stuck to my skin. I looked up at the clouds, they were thick, black and stormy and it started to rain. Except the rain was glittery, something wasn't right. I started to realise the rain wasn't rain; it was tiny, thin, shards of glass falling from the sky. I had nowhere to run or hide, glancing down at my left arm, I was shocked. I had a layer of tiny pieces of glass stuck in my skin. Like a frosting of a second skin. No pain and no blood.

A doctor at work told me that if you taken took much B12 vitamin, you have strange dreams. I ate a lot of Marmite yesterday.

I saw this today. I walk past this boarded up house everyday, but today it made me smile. Someone did this over night. I rarely talk about my day job, but my work can involve working with homeless people. Homelessness should not really be an issue in this country now yet it does. For many reasons, often just bad luck.
Until today I never knew how many empty homes there are. It's really quite disgusting. I hope to meet the people who made this protest...anyone know if it's happened anywhere near them?!

Confusing Edward with a giant key = odd. The blue thing wrapped round the door handle is Edwards birthday present...except I couldn't wait and gave it to him. He is getting a bit of a belly, which is odd because I don't feed him lots. I thought it would be good exercise.... anyway, I went to Brick Lane today, wandered round the vintage markets, bought Ms Cupcake cakes, which were VEGAN and took a few photos with my Fuji Instax.

I bought a new camera...a Fuji Instax 210. My manager found a lot of film in his office and gave it to me 'because I like photography' ! So I bought the camera for it! It's huge but the photos are quite pretty. Here are a couple from when The Dogbones played in Guildford.

midnight fields

This was taken at Glastonbury, 2009, up in the stone circle late at night. The one and only time I heard reverberations and laid on the grass watching Chinese lanterns swirl in the sky. Like a computer restarting. Reboot of the brain.
Laying on the grass that night was really quite magical, living in a city means I miss out on such experiences. There is something quite special about the smell of grass at midnight.

I had two very vivid dreams last night. The first focuses on my close friend Joe:

I dreamt he excitedly came to tell me he had met someone wonderful and had fallen in love; Joe wanted me to meet this person called 'Heap'. I replied to him stating of course I would love to meet her. To which Joe corrected me by saying 'HIM!' Of course! We went to meet Heap in an underpass somewhere. He was very tall, black, good looking and had a lot of stubble. More importantly he was charming.

Second dream (and not so interesting...):

I had a pink tricycle and was cycling up hill. Every time I braked, I flipped over the handle bars.

Annnyyyyywayyyy:

I went to the Sea Life Centre in Brighton on Friday. This is a big thing for me as I had to confront my phobia of sharks and everything that reminds me of sharks. We went on the glass bottomed boat over the shark tank and I was so scared...but Vince held my hand so it was ok. Sharks are beautiful, but I guess a phobia is just totally irrational.

wow. 5 years have passed since the filming of this, back in 2005. This is part of a film 'No Manifesto' and the live footage was filmed on the Past Present Future tour, of which I went to 4 shows. So odd to see this video and to see myself and my friends in 2005...I am glad I am still friends with a lot of the people in the video!

This photoshoot in January was so fun, and....easy, considering there were 5 people to organise! This was shot in Nomi and Crispins lounge, we had to hang up sheets to make it as light as possible. The sheets had to be pinned to the ceiling...except the pins were hammered in! The shoot was also helped by Vince making margaritas! mmm...

End of the working week = visit to Fara charity shop. Picked up this tshirt today for £2.80! It had a CAT ON IT!!!! Waheeeeey. I love charity shops. Even if I was really really really rich I would still but as much as I can from charity shops! 'Vintage' shops are just a rip off, glorified charity shops if you like, with NO MONEY going to charity shops. Don't get me wrong, I love vintage shopping, but honestly, prices are bumped up just because they are in Beyond Retro? hmph.

Anyway, I have been enjoying the delights of Brick Lane recently....curry....art....interesting fashion, it's like a different world in London. Mmm curry.

I am going to be working a 4 day week starting next week...I am so excited that I will have a 3 day weekend again. I can actually do more photography and creative type stuff. I want to get my Etsy site up and running...and to make more.

Sleigh Bells @ Rough Trade East

I went to see Sleigh Bells at Rough Trade East yesterday! They were great and I am no good at writing reviews....!!! They were however, full of energy, particularly the singer. The guitarist was on and off the stage which was a bit odd. Most of the music was a backing track, but it worked because the music/base was louuuuuudddd.

I had such a busy day today at work, I didn't even have a chance to eat. In the end I just had 3 cups of black tea, which is why I am probably a bit jittery.
Bebe, my housemates cat (but feels like mine as she has live with me for two and half years!) went to the vets to be 'de-matted'. She has hyperthyroidism and arthritis, she is also old too, and she has been unable to clean herself properly. So she was shaved today....poor thing but at least she will have nice new shiny hair!

only 2 days until the weekend...! I haven't slept too well the past few nights; dreams including fire, floods and lost cats. Hmph. Maybe the three cups of black tea was a good thing today!!

Here There Everywhere

I miss the countryside. These two photos were taken in the Lake District in January 2009, at the ruins of Rigg Beck (The Purple House). There is something about ruins...ghost houses, empty shells; holes in the landscape. This house had little meaning to me as I never saw it before the fire and the collapse, only read about it. So why was it still moving? We found shoes and video tapes and old pans, traces of people. I liked the battered suitcase and the sign above which read 'Here There Everywhere'. That's how I feel at the moment. Which way to go?

I went for a vegan brunch today, involving french toast, pancakes and buns. I practically waddled out, in between playing with a cat called Twinkle and falling down a ladder, getting friction burn on my hand on the way.

Yesterday I was looking through my old photos and came across two self portraits. It reminded me, I never take self portraits anymore. Maybe it is me being more comfortable with myself, not needing to create an image to portray who I really want to look like. Or maybe it is because I actually find it uncomfortable to make an image of myself, too self conscious.

Apparently the past 2 weeks I have 'poked my head out of the box' but now I am going back into it again. I know what I have to do!!

Wow I haven't blogged for so long!

FLICKR has a group pool for the best shot of 2009 . I thought about mine. I decided my snow photos of Hazel from February were the best. I always get the most reaction from people about them. I chose this one in particular as I love Hazels eyes and how a street has been transformed from the everyday urban scenery into another magical world, maybe Narnia like maybe something from a Tim Burton film...I am not really sure.
Anyway, what does anyone else think?

I have another Exhibition on 30th December, Proud Galleries Camden @ 7.30pm
I am exhibiting TEA PHOTOS! Yay! So there will be the ones of Hazel and Bev but also a photo of Maple Bee. She is playing at the evening also. We are both pleased with the finished photo and I am not putting it online until after the exhibition! There will be signed prints on sale too (signed by myself and Maple Bee too!!)

Also I found these 5 Ruby Throat prints. They are from the first ever Ruby Throat in sept 07. I got them printed with the intention to sell them back then....I will not be printing these again...

I will also have some Ruby Throat packs of postcards for sale. They haven't arrived yet so I haven't sorted a price.

Any left over prints will go on ebay!

By the way, for any of you who are worried I am ripping off Ruby Throat, I have permission to sell these postcards and photos!

In other randomness...I really wish Ruby and the Goldbug hadn't split up....

I am busy planning a new shoot in a couple of weeks. I am a bit nervous but I think the results will be lovely!

winter creeps

writing has gone into hibernation so I am trying to wake myself before I give up entirely.
I am terrible at writing blogs, I know...but here we are, I am writing, I like writing, I just can't articulate myself well.

It has been a strange couple of months for me, seeing lots of bands, meeting new people, working and being ill. My flat is full of mould and so Hazel and I are diseased. Edward Kitten is growing up, he is sleeping right now on my bed.

How is it winter already? it's raining outside and I need to venture out of this flat at 9pm.

I went to see Ruby Throat last night...who were as amazing as always. I was able to crawl (literally) onto the side of the stage to take photos...go to my FLICKR to see photos!

365 project also seems to be going well....again see more on my flickr account.

This week has felt crazy. I have felt crazy...in fact I have been telling people I feel crazy. Plans for the weekend fell through, so I did practically nothing and spent time on my own relaxing. Thinking and considering.
I was accepted to be a member on Getty Images, but their process for submitting images is so difficult to understand that I have given up!!
In other, happier stuff, I am now working at CLUB HELL! I will be photographing the event once a month and hostessing it (or something along those lines!

currently sat here with the cat warming my lap, sipping tea and feeling really happy that the week is over! I have nothing planned for the weekend, but this is good because I am taking this time to be on my own, to do things on my own...no pressure, no worries just freedom. Maybe I will go wander around a park if the weather is nice...or go visit a health food shop...or go to a market.
I have had an odd week at work. But unfortunately I cannot write about it here, although it would make a great story!
How I wish I could write. How I wish I was articulate, could spell and that dyslexia wouldn't hold me back. Having said that, I wouldn't choose not to be dyslexic, I truely believe it has HELPED me become more creative.

Over the past year, I have kept a Visual Diary. Well in part it has been a scrapbook. But mostly doodles, found things, tickets, dreams and words.

After three days of rest off of work with a 'virus', I feel much better. Much more rested. I went to see Pythia at their single launch night. I had some prints for sale!

It's also been a week of cats. When I was feeling a bit better, I took a few photos of the neighbours cat. He/she is a strange creature, very vocal, and tips his head slightly when he sees our cat, Bebe.

On Saturday night, I went for a picnic in an old Brixton house and had tea and cake in the garden... photos:

anyway....got a long week of work next week, can't say I'm looking forward to it. Got to catch up on everything I missed. Need to change jobs, this job is making me so unhappy. Work is the only place I can't take my camera!!!!

So saturday was the last ever Stay Beautiful club. I have been going to this club night since 2005, it's where I met most of the friends I have in London...and in fact I met my housemate, Hazel, in the toilets there, back in July 2006. I have celebrated 3 of my birthdays there, seen many many bands and traveled from places such as Norwich just for the one night.

So RIP Stay Beautiful Club!

We were celebrating Hazels birthday that night too...here is a picture of her blowing out her candle (click for larger version) :

Other then that, I have been working myself to exhaustion. I have a very stressful job and sometimes I don't know when to take a break. I've had a sore throat for a week and on Wednesday morning I started walking into work and realised I really wasn't feeling well. Went to the doctors and apparently my body is fighting a 'virus' and I need to take a break to let my body recover. So here I am feeling guilty that I should be at work. Also I am missing The Dogbones tonight so I can recover.

But hey, I need to find a new job, one that doesn't kill me!

Hello everyone...I am not actually sure if anyone reads what I write. I know I am no writer, but I do enjoy it. Anyway...hello...I have been busy with all sorts of ideas and such.
I have been listening to Florence and The Machine on repeat all week. The album Lungs is brilliant, I think it could be *the* album of 2009 for me! Florence Welch inspired me to get a fringe too on Thursday, the first time I have had a fringe since I was 5 years old!

I finally created a photograph promoting the Mooncup! I am quite pleased with the photo. A nice lady from the Mooncup stall at Glastonbury gave me the stickers which I will be sticking everywhere I can! The model wants to stay anonymous by the way!

This is Hazel as she was back combing her hair! We were getting ready to go and see The Dogbones on Saturday night...

...and here are The Dogbones. My goodness they are an amazing band to see live, especially now the singer, Nomi, isn't on guitar or bass, she is let loose...and I mean let loose!

Last but not least, here is a quick snap of our cat Bebe...she is getting old and now dribbles when she is happy, hungry or even worse, BOTH AT THE SAME TIME! eeew. Eeww but funny.

It's that time again...Sunday night. I really really wish the weekend was longer...

I cooked a proper vegan roast dinner today with an apple and pear crumble, mmm it was so good, my stomach is smiling. Mmm.

After seeing Coraline at the cinema ages ago, I was inspired to create a piece inspired by this film. I only really got around to doing it now! Was quite fun to do. I am blind without my glasses but imagine no glasses and giant pink buttons over my eyes AND attempting to take a photo! It was tricky to say the least. Also I had a giant dress on and kept tripping over, terrified the key would whack me in the mouth and knock out my teeth! Actually, I love that dress. I got it at the Angels Vintage sale last winter...its really pretty but a little too big for me.

Here is a photo I took of Chloe during a break in our photoshoot. We happened to have a pink rose in our garden that matched her hair....

This week has been totally insane. I am not going to write about it on here...but I think there must be something happening in the stars!

This is my/our take on The Empress Tarot card. The model is my wonderfully lovely lovely lovely friend Chloe. The photo is for an artist Chloe knows who is making her own set of Tarot cards! The Empress is, I believe, important for Chloe...so here is our version, pink and in the garden!
Feel kinda sad as Chloe is going away for a while and I will miss her sooooo much!

We drank tea and ate cake this afternoon. I made some lemon cupcakes and some chocolate mint cupcakes....vegan of course.

Back to work tomorrow. Hmph.
